The Scary Game

Back Story
Download Game
This was the first game that I ever made fully using unreal engine for my final project for university. I decided to go big on this one to fully showcase my talents and the skills I’d learned throughout the last three years on the course.
The Scary Games is set in a mansion where the player ‘Sophie’ suddenly finds herself plunged into darkness and her babysitter missing.
The game is filled with puzzles and surprises as Sophie navigates herself through the mansion to find fuses and restore light, thus saving the babysitter. Hindered by the evil ventriloquist dummy, "Slappy". Sophie must keep her phone charged in order to use the torch and stop her fear meter from rising.

Slide Puzzle Mini Game
Who doesn't love mini games? For the player to progress, a series of different mini games and puzzles are included into the level.
I love puzzles, almost as much as I love game dev. Sometimes I think of features or mechanics that are just way out of my skill set, then spend the next few days trying to make it happen. This mini game is one of those times.

Rock, Paper, Scissors... with a chicken!
A bit of random whimsy thrown into this one. In order to progress further the player must play Rock, Paper, Scissors with a cheating and somewhat cocky chicken, oh yeah and he is on fire, dont ask him why, he seems a little sensitive about the whole thing.

Electronic Keypad Lock and Code
Another part of the game was to include a digital lock on a floor safe, the player would find the code randomly placed somewhere in the level. The safe itself was also hidden under a rug.

Phone Battery
As the player strives to keep the fear meter down, they must sometimes use the phones torch to light the way, this would cause the battery to drain and so they are periodically forced to recharge at a charging station. The battery will also occasionally die at random percentages because lets face it, they do!

Lighting
I love lighting, it is by far the most enjoyable area in game dev. Ever since I dragged out my first point light in UE4 was hooked. I have spent many many hours on YouTube tutorials or just experimenting with various settings just to see what would happen. Volumetric lighting combined with exponential height fog has become something of an obsession. For some reason, I just love it!
